DEMOCRATIC CLAY

by Chris Beale and Ian Howie

York Art Gallery, Main Ceramics Hall

Saturday 10th June 2017 2pm - 4pm

Democratic Clay is a show about making things in clay,

together.

It’s a show that invites you to watch two people make,

and to listen to their conversation. And to join in and

have your own say, in clay and words.

We wonder, what will it be like to do this in the gallery of Britain’s biggest collection of studio pottery?

What will we make?

What will we talk about?

And what will we see, when we look at what we’ve made?

These are some of the questions behind Democratic Clay, a work devised especially for Day of Clay 2017 at York Art Gallery.

Chris and Ian have worked together since 2015 and share interests in dance and movement. They both have histories with clay, as artist and potter respectively. They hope you find some pleasure in watching, listening, making and talking.
